Our Philosophy

Exceptional Abilities strongly believes that every person is capable of exceptional things when provided with the proper environment, strategies, and encouragement.

Teachers at Exceptional Abilities work toward ensuring students are equipped with the skills and confidence required to excel in their home, in the classroom, and within their social community.

Through our tutoring services, students are able to access a wider variety of resources and strategies which are transferable to the classroom setting.

With significant experience supporting individuals with special needs, we are also able to consult with parents, employers, and/or employees regarding workplace accommodations and life-skill strategies which best fit the needs of the individual.

At Exceptional Abilities, we accept everyone at their current level of understanding and practice. Our purpose is to collaborate with individuals and their support system in order to unlock THEIR Exceptional Abilities.

Halfway through her last semester of high school, my daughter was struggling to get through biology. She had always dreamed of being a nurse and had been accepted into a program on condition that she reach the minimum grade requirement in biology. My daughter was feeling very overwhelmed. She has some learning disabilities which make a subject like biology, with so much vocabulary and memorization, very challenging. Along with that she struggles with test anxiety and was worried about her upcoming final and diploma. Michelle is someone I have known for a while so I reached out for help. Michelle set us up with Chelsea, who specializes in biology. Our initial meeting was with both of them. They were so positive and encouraging which helped my daughter feel hopeful. Because we were short on time, Chelsea was willing to come multiple times a week. When my daughter struggled on assignments she was worried about disappointing Chelsea, but Chelsea let her know she was there to support her in any way needed and took away all the fear and shame. Chelsea spent hours going over assignments and diploma questions. My daughter struggled on her final exam, but was given a chance to redo it. Chelsea had already planned to be out of town that week, but she booked sessions online so that she could still help my daughter prepare. It was also an emotional rollercoaster for me. Michelle was a constant support and cheerleader to me through all the ups and downs. When Alli's diploma results came back we all celebrated as she accomplished her goal! She would not have been able to do it without the help of Michelle and Chelsea and I am so grateful for their support. I highly recommend Exceptional Abilities Tutoring. They care, meet their students where they are at, and empower them with knowledge and confidence.

My family has been working with Exceptional Abilities for the past 3 years. Most of our experiences has been for our youngest in help with reading, writing and math. The confidence and growth that our son has gained has shown and grown each year due to Michelle’s expertise. She really knows how to connect on a child’s level to really help them flourish. Over the 3 years Michelle worked with our youngest, we always had her help our high schoolers with exam prep and just general study habits to help them understand how they learn. I will recommend Michelle to anyone who’s child is struggling at the moment. You won’t regret getting started.

Our experience with Michelle and her tutoring services has been wonderful. Our daughter just completed her first year of IB courses in grade 10. She has a very busy schedule and often finds it difficult to pick up new learning material in the standard ways it is delivered in school, so finding a tutor that is a good fit for her can be hard. When suggesting a tutor, Michelle carefully considered our daughter’s learning strengths and personality traits. Mitchell was the perfect tutor to help our daughter with her math and science courses. He was very patient, presented learning material in multiple ways, and helped build her confidence over the school year. Mitchell also targeted his instruction to the areas our daughter needed, building on her strengths and maximizing their instructional time together. We were so grateful to have Mitchell work with our daughter and feel he was a big part of her successful first year in high school! We strongly recommend Michelle’s services. Our History

Exceptional Abilities Educational Consultation & Tutoring was officially founded in September 2015. We wanted it to be something that included students of all abilities and supported our philosophy that a student’s struggles should not be what defines them. Our mission is more than just tutoring. Thus, Exceptional Abilities Educational Consultation & Tutoring was born!

At Exceptional Abilities, we see the ability first; we believe everyone has an Exceptional Ability. Though everyone has difficulties they struggle with on a daily basis, they also have many skills and strengths. Some of our abilities need to be practised, rehearsed, and instructed differently to become our Exceptional Abilities.
